I set myself free

an old page fell out
I unfolded and opened a world filled with you
initials carved on college desk
a bunch of promises that are long overdue

soaked clothes in august rain
lust peeking through white
a meter-less sonnet inked for you
and a cold reaction for a poet's delight

folding it back the woman in me chuckled
the young girl adjusted her hair
knowing too well between strokes
you would have never cared

though I  folded the page back
your fragments remained with me
take all that you left behind - I screamed
let me be free

twenties is a wicked time
you fly and think you can soar
thirties is no less either
these tidbits are hard to ignore

I unfolded the page again
made a paper plane with words out
threw in your direction
from where you once come unannounced

with a flick and some wind
yesterday I embraced the woman in me
with that paper plane flew my remaining hopes
but I set myself free

  14. It funny how so much can spill out of a little piece of paper. That is just what you should do to memories that bog you down - make a paper plane and fly it into oblivion.

    Nice job, Saru.
