Coupled for Eternity

As the day drew near and near, I could feel my pulse getting higher. Was that the pressure of getting engaged or the hoopla of a ceremony?…I don't know but one thing was for sure, I was not exactly enjoying everything happening around me. I was merely a part of it. I was getting engaged and you all will agree that preparations are not that romantic. But what happened a day after defined LOVE for me and it was surely my Platinum Day of Love.

A day after our engagement, we were talking casually on phone when my fiancé asked me to go to the front lawn to check beautiful August weather. ‘It will cheer you up, Saru,’ he urged. Exhausted with a week long preparation I reluctantly dragged myself and was surprised to see him standing in front of my house. ‘Get ready and let's go for a drive,’ he said with great enthusiasm. Completely bowled over by his sweet gesture, all I could manage was a smile. And how could anyone say ‘No’ to such a romantic offer?
Without caring a hoot about our daily schedule, we went for a drive. We thought of going to Kasauli and before we crossed Chandigarh, it started raining. Trust me, already immersed in love, weather simply turned intoxicating. Always in for adventure, we took the road less travelled. Instead of taking the usual route to Kasauli, we drove through Parwaano. I can’t express in words how beautiful the scenery was! Driving through the clouds of fog, I could’t ask for more but seems Alok had different plans. He stopped the car and gifted me the latest book by my favorite author. That moment I felt the luckiest girl alive. When your partner understands the tiniest of things about you, you feel blessed. That moment I felt the beginning of an everlasting bond. Taking note of smallest of things about your other half strengthens the foundation of a relationship and such relationships only grow with time...

There was hardly any traffic on the road that day and we parked our car. We strolled on the road, in the rain and enjoyed the breathtaking view. We clicked pictures to capture the memories of a lifetime experience. At 27, we brought out the child in each other. When we reached Kasauli, we landed into an argument which we sorted out with a joke. Disagreements have a unique way of showing that you care for each other and it only strengthens the relationship. Before heading back home, we stopped at Cafe Coffee Day, Dharampur to have a hot cup of coffee and we bought photo frames in which we have framed the pictures clicked that day. The drive seemed symbolic of how we wanted to move forward in our new life together - exploring and taking life as it comes but at the same time holding each other with love and holding each other’s back.

A beautiful surprise, intoxicating weather, long drive to a hill station, latest book of your favorite author, your favorite cup of coffee and an overdose of love - when all this happens in a day, you can undoubtedly tag it as your Platinum Day of Love. Wish we could have exchanged rings on that day and celebrated our love with platinum, instead of white gold. When love is eternal and pure, it deserves something as pious and everlasting as Platinum. When I look at my faded white gold ring, I rub my fingers on it. I treasure the years this ring has rested on my finger but if I ever get another such day in my life, I will celebrate it with Platinum, which is naturally white and pure, just like our love. With its pure sheen and ever shining color, it would give us the feeling of being Coupled for Eternity.

Three years back, I gifted this poem to thank my husband for one of the best gifts he has given me, a Gift of a Memorable Day, which is permanently etched in my memory.
Insomniac from many nights,
My condensed pulses want to revive,
May be our love story is too plain,
Let’s fall in love... all over again...

Remember the road,
I walked in the rain,
Lurched bare feet beating the mundane.
I pocketed the moments that day,
Separated colors from all the grey,
My life has changed since and it won’t be same.
So, let’s fall in love... all over again…

In the twinkling of eyes,
In the tapping of feet,
In the glass of wine,
In the crumpling of bed sheet,
Sweet nothings walk never making a rush,
Always new story unfolds with a midas touch,
Address me as you like but follow my plan,
C’mon, let’s fall in love... all over again…
