World At My Fingertips!

Anticipating the fun that was coming my way, I hugged my Dad when he gifted me my first mobile in 2002. With enthusiasm, I started pressing the keys and embarked on the journey of discovery. It has been a long and exciting journey since...A journey, which not only soothed my senses in times of stress but helped me in finding three of the most beautiful relationships of my life.

Initially, with high rates and expensive downloading, mobile was just a gadget to flaunt. But with the rush of technology and competition, not only the rates were slashed but the mobile market was flooded with better models. My encounter with internet on mobile happened when I bought a multimedia phone. From then on, there has been no looking back. Listening to music, watching videos, texting, even finding a groom for myself...Seriously, I have done it all on this tiny gadget.

One day, curious to discover more on my mobile, I activated the GPRS. And, that opened the boundless gateways. While scanning one of the social networking sites, I met my classmate from school after eleven years. I was fascinated and thrilled; needless to say, smitten by love. For weeks, thereafter, we chatted, exchanged emails and I never parted with my mobile. Within a month, he proposed and a month after that, we were engaged. Quite fast, you would say...But, internet romances should work at that speed. After all, when it comes to the internet, it’s all about speed!

I was smiling with pride as I thought I was using this gadget to its maximum potential. What else you can do with it? I was doing everything on my mobile; from surfing the net to checking the weather; from tweeting to killing the pink pigs on Facebook...Yes, yes, I was addicted to ‘Angry Birds.’ But when last summer, sitting idle in my office, I pressed few buttons to explore what more I could do with my mobile, I stumbled upon blogging and hence ‘Words,' my blog, was born....

Blogging opened the floodgates of my creativity. I met like-minded people and was blown away by the enormous talent present on the net. To me, it was like creating a mini-universe of people who welcomed my talent with open arms. I wonder at times; would it be possible for me to blog actively if updating it was not possible on mobile? I think...NO. For any blogger who works and has a family to take care of, updating blog on mobile is a boon. I was soaked up from head to toe in my mobile. The world was literally at my fingertips. I thought I have explored everything my mobile has to offer. Little aware that I will meet someone from the other side of the world on this tiny gadget...

Interacting with a fellow blogger on Gtalk on a beautiful August noon, I discovered that we were neighbors in Bangalore. We lived on the same street for a year but never met in person. We shopped, dined and walked at the same place but never saw each other. And, three years later, continents away, we met on the net. To bookmark this beautiful chapter of life, I wrote ‘13, Cambridge Street’ last year. I’ll always be thankful to my mobile for giving me a friend for a lifetime.

Now, I don’t doubt the limitlessness of internet. Rather, I dwell, I dig, I search, I explore and I enjoy. I use all the apps, download more and wish for a new app every day. Internet adds the much-needed element of fun to my life. You too go and explore the enormous world of excitement...It will be fun, for sure, I promise!

Signing off with a quote from Bill Gates, "The internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow." And, you can be there all the time on your mobile.
