Lambi Judai by Vandana Srinivasan - A Song For Your Parched Soul

Pick your smartphone. Open YouTube. Search Vandana Srinivasan. Tap 'Lambi Judai' from the search result. Keep your phone on a flat surface and be prepared to dive into an ocean of melody. The song starts and the soul-stirring voice of the singer sends shivers down the spine. If art is meant to touch your soul, her rendition will leave for soul hungry for more.

I, for one, wept.

I wept for almost an hour. The song played on a loop in the background. My body and soul felt light as I was shedding one more tear. I never knew I had those many suppressed and pent-up emotions inside me. Vandana was singing - I was unburdening my soul at her feet. It was cathartic. It was meditative. It was something I never experienced in my life before. Though I listen to at least 50 songs in a day.

The song is about memories, separation and love. We have thousands, if not millions, songs on these themes. In fact, this song is a cover. Call me biased, this cover is better than original. The credit goes the singer's voice. Vandana's voice has the ability to stir a tsunami of emotions.

I felt I was on an unmanned boat in the middle of Atlantic and her voice was steering the course. The song started. I entered into a rough violent patch where I came face-to-face with melancholy buried deep in the recesses of my heart. I started shedding salty tears in the salty ocean. The song continued. The rough and strong waves slowly started to vanish along with my sadness. The song ended and I became a calmer person craving for nothing else but art - great music and her honey-soaked voice.

Vandana's voice is like threads of fine pashmina. It's pure, elegant and classic. Her technique is also class-apart. I've had the good fortune of listening to her riyaaz videos on Instagram. Her dedication and hard work are evident in those stories. She is definitely blessed with talent. But she leaves no stone unturned to polish it. I've nothing but love and respect for her.

If you love music, two things will happen when you will listen to this song. You will find a brilliant singer in the deluge of auto-tuned ones. And you will come back to Lambi Judai rendition by Vandana Srinivasan when your soul will feel parched.

So please listen and thank me later.

Love,
Saru
