Prayers Too Many...

Gayatri Mantra was my first lesson in hymns. I recited it with closed eyes and folded hands every time my mother asked me to. At 4, all I knew was if you recite it with devotion, closed eyes and folded hands, all your prayers would be answered. Well, I kind of still believe in it. A pure heart and an honest prayer never go wrong.

My reasons for prayer are too many. From a tiny glitch I'm unable to solve to the happiness of my loved ones, I pray to Almighty for various reasons. Praying is my way of connecting with God. I feel even if my prayers won’t be answered, I will find peace of mind and positive energy to face all the difficulties. When I pray, I ask for God’s wishes so that I can complete my task. Sometimes, I bribe him with ladoos and sleep with faith that He will swing his magic wand and my wish will be fulfilled. God may be late in answering my prayers but they never go unanswered and that's why my list of prayers has only increased over the years.

~ My reasons to pray ~

Everyday divine ritual,
Of Diya and Agarbathi,
Closed eyes, folded hands,
Praying to Deities adorned with garlands.

Holy chants echo,
During the festive season.
I pray for money, health and family,
Sometimes I pray for no reason.

I sing vedic hymns,
Faith resonating everywhere.
Praying for prosperity,
At times I offer a silent prayer.

Let me be more wise,
My brother less spend thrift.
Oh God! Don’t let ongoing cricket match,
Create a dining table rift.

I pray to Almighty,
Even for a stress-free day,
To take away my biggest of fears,
I whisper prayers in Nandi's ears.

Keep my family blessed,
My loved ones happy,
Peace all around and hatred go away,
With devotion I pray.

Come Diwali,
Come this festive season.
With increased fervor,
I'll pray for endless reasons.

And this Diwali when I'll worship Goddess Lakshmi, I won't keep any stone unturned to make her happy. I'll make sure to sing the slokas and arti with proper pronunciation and doing the pooja without missing anything and for that I would buy Lakshmi Pooja Pack. No matter how much planning I do, in the rush of festivities, I always miss a thing or a two. Last year, I forgot to keep roli in pooja thali. And when you know that all the preparations are done, you can do pooja without rush, enjoy and teach the traditions to the little ones in the family. So, this Diwali no matter whether you pray for a high rank in school or a big car, don't forget to be prepared with Lakshmi Pooja Pack and make the celebrations a memorable one.

...And I hope all your prayers will be answered.

  1. Lovely post Saru :) Prayer indeed has the power to bring peace to our souls. Prayers turns the 'impossible' to 'possible'. And yes 'God's delays are not God's denials' - I have experienced it personally :)

Wishing you and your family a Happy Diwali :)

  3. Lovely take. In an age where even God has been corrupted and scammed, the most important things to pray for are a discerning multitude and peace in the land (and homes).

  16. Saru,
I enjoyed reading it. Prayers help calm our minds. I sometimes wonder, if God would have really eaten all the ladoos that we offer, will we still continue offering those?
