67% Discounted

I stubbed my cigarette,
Naked I walk.
On a broken trail,
In the noise of a monologue.
Truth is a product,
I bought 'it' on discount.
Applauding myself in soliloquy,
On the bargain so profound.
25% thrashed, for the world so corrupt,
15% more for shredding peer's trust.
10% lost in commercialization wave,
15% goes to how we behave.
2% is the surcharge,
For making life unbelievingly large.
Go, add your reasons for heavier rebate,
No one cares about truth, of late.
Wait! I found what's bothering me inside,
Killing me for buying the stale lot.
Wiser men stayed away,
What I grabbed, no one ever bought.

  2. Ahha!!! What an insighful post. Reading the title I thought it's some promotional post of some product.:P But whoaa! You have so precisely scribbled about the truth bought on discount. I'm first time here to thank you for reading me at Indivine. Thank-you :)

another nice way to describe truth..

  7. Well, that is one explanation of what is happening with truth today, isn't it? Sad are the state of affairs. But, of course, who has the time to look at the mirror?
If you don't mind my saying - shouldn't it be 'of late' rather than 'off late'?

  26. Such a hard hitting truth presented in a realistic way, Saru. That 15% blame/credit on us should be much higher because I am a lot more cynical in that aspect. It is our mindset that make us not believe what other's say. Our conscience is responsible for not trusting one another. Again, we are the ones responsible for commercializing everything.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, cynicism is pretty high, I witness it on a daily basis. For almost everything we are responsible, we have stooped so low that we want end results at any cost.

  31. As a poem it is perfectly written...but lets fact it...the world was designed to be a mean place right from the begining. It runs on the 'survival of fittest' principle, so lies, deceit, jealously etc negativity has been around since time immemorial and will be there even after we perish...and thats the truth ...lol ( donno if i understand what i'm writing myself )

  35. Similar to Megadeth's "Peace sells, but who's buying?" I loved reading your 'truth sells, but who's buying?'
I like it that the author regrets more that she bought something unwanted rather than having bought something unique.

  38. Awesome poem and attached note, Saru. Very impressed. As for truth, all we can do is try to speak it and live it. As for others, it is enough to recognise them for what they are as most people appreciate honesty and get put off lies.

    1. Deep within we all know what is true and what's not. Sometimes, we don't have the courage to speak it. As you said, we should try. Thanks a lot for liking the poem, coming from you, it means a lot.
