No longer mourn me when I am dead

No longer mourn me when I am dead.
Kindle me in your heart,
More so, in your hope.
Perfect would be for your deeds.
For my death has sown the seeds.

Mourn me no longer - I am dead.
Save your tear for mirth,
Don't waste it on me.
Ashes don't make you strong,
Let me go where I belong.

Mourn me no longer - I am dead.
Alter the course of tomorrow,
Today you have time.
Let our children see only light,
Let us make all the wrongs right.

No longer mourn me when I am dead.
Broken hearts seldom seek ahead.

*The title is inspired by Sonnet 71

  7. She is actually saying those words, stop mourning me, and get going with the seeds I have sown. Change the tomorrow, and start today, start now. Yes she feels this, and doesn't want the sympathy, she wants actions and results. You have nailed this here totally!!

  15. This is touching and motivating at the same time. It contains a strong message that time is running too fast that we shouldn't spend so much time to mourn the past. There's nothing much we can do about it so walk ahead and concentrate on present and future. An absolutely beautiful poem, Saru!

  23. Your poems always always stir something in my heart, but this one touched me much deeper, I just pondered over it for a while after I read it. As brutal and tragic her death was, I sometimes wonder will it ever change? This is much beyond making laws and punishments much more stringent, it is even beyond change in mindsets of people. Something much deeper, very deep in our very core...

    1. Even I wonder the same, nothing has changed except for the number of such brutalities. Yes, we need to work hard on our morals. I love reading mysteries and crime thrillers and most of the times you come across criminals who had bad upbringing, so if we work on that level, telling how to bring up your kids, what values to inculcate, things might change.

Glad that this poem has evoked deep emotions in you. Thanks for reading Akshay :)

  27. Actually, Indians are founders of the term hypocrisy. We are so confused that we don't know what we believe in. Since when 10:30 is late in a metro??? No wonder, BPO employees are not safe in our country but are kids safe in their home? This is a debate which will go on and on till we change ourselves. It's very funny how I feel after reading it. Someone is saying, since you were out at night, rape toh hona hi tha...Utterly ridiculous...

All I want to say in this poem is, there is no point in sharing, tweeting about her now, change yourself, help a girl in need, raise your voice when you see discrimination and please make this country liveable. BTW, I applaud you as you took part in those protests, in fact I applaud everyone who was a part of it. Thanks for reading and I agree, last two lines are good :) Hope we follow it in its spirit.

  36. Hi Saru,

Beautifully written poem. There are times to mourn and then there are times when one should stand up and fight for their rights and make their voices heard. The human spirit and hope was not created to be trampled upon. I hope the nation & its citizens awaken and take stock of this situation.

    Good work once again.

Right, we have to take the stock of this situation which BTW will be more of self analysis. We have to work on our own morals before we even try to change our country.
