Je t'aime

I posted these poems as a series last year. It was written as a story of a lady who was waiting for her beloved. He wrote a letter saying that he would come in July and meet her in the garden where they met last time. Read how the story unfolds in each poem. Please share which one of these poems you liked the most.

Je t'aime - I
In this Garden,
My soul wanders, My self is lost.
I breathe love in this place,
Here life unfolds.
I walk here everyday,
Every day I sigh...
With my arms folded around me,
Waiting for this July.
I have lost count of time,
Count of days and nights...
Since I sit on this bench,
Holding his letter tight.
I kissed him goodbye,
For he will return for us...
In this Garden, this July,
To give voice to my words.

Je t'aime - II

Was drifted away with ecstasy, rubbed and erased all fears,
As he was coming to me, he would have been near.
I waited for this July, like no one has waited before,
And I loved him always, with each passing moment even more.
Now, hopes are drifting away, reading his latest letter twice,
Is maintaining this relation by any means wise?
Should I wait for him? He needs more time;
They say for love to be true, it has to be one of its kind.
August is not far away, my heart pleaded my mind,
Though deep within I think, Is my love so blind?
The lady in me crave for his embrace,
For my numb soul, this is a hard phase.

Convicted of falling in love, I have to bear this pain.
Consoling my pounding heart, its pleading will not go in vain.

Je t'aime - III

Voice, I heard his voice,
No, not from a distance, very near.
It could be my dream,
I didn’t open my eyes to look clear.
He rubbed his hand on my shoulder,
I flicked it away.
Thought it might be my friends,
Who tease me this way.
Left with no options,
He lifted me in his arms.
Then, I believed his presence,
As usual I was smitten by his charms.
In this garden, I waited for him,
Through June, July and August.
He kept his promise,
And returned for us.
I asked him, for my longings, my love,
Give me something true.
He got down on his knees, took the ring,
Proposed and said, 'I Love You'.

*Je t’aime means ‘I Love You’ in French.

  7. Ahh Saru, thank god for the happy ending :-) Midway through the second poem, amongst her desperation, I almost thought, god this is not going correct. One more man makes his love wait for years. But he came, and he proposed, wow!

I liked the third poem the best. And those lines, where she doesn't open her eyes, fearing she would be disspointed again, was so beautifully painful. How much she loved him, but still somewhere she stopped believing.

The second poem :'Though deep within I think, Is my love so blind?', single line to show how she questions her love. Perfect Saru!!

    1. When I was writing this, I wanted to have a happy ending. And you are right about the line you mentioned, at times we question our own beliefs.

Good to know that you liked third one. Thanks for reading and for your wonderful comment Jenny. Always a pleasure to hear from you :)

  8. Beautiful, as ever. You spin the love and longing between two soulmates in an a very lucid yet very appealing fashion. My heart leapt out for the 'Lady' of the poem.

Though I liked all of them, yet the third one is my favourite :-)

  17. Ahh Saru.. when I read the title, I was wondering if you had written a poem in French. With your wizardry with words I wouldn’t be surprised. ;)

I have always been mesmerized by your words and how sweetly they rhyme and chime together. But then the ease with which your poems unfolded into a beautiful love story is just blissful. All three poems were brilliant and played their parts beautifully in bringing a love story to life. The first one was gentle as a breeze and the reader just looses himself in the serenity. The second one instills a deep pain and an anxiety that grows on you. And then you end it beautifully with love and hope and magic of oneness.

    J'aime ces poèmes beaucoup! :)

  25. I loved all 3, very beautiful, each poem conveys a different kind of emotion which is very touching. And the way you have written by using very simplistic and uncomplicated words, makes the poems even more endearing. The story unfolds beautifully with each poem. My favorite poem would have to be the second one. :)

    Loved these lines:

"Convicted of falling in love, I have to bear this pain.
Consoling my pounding heart, its pleading will not go in vain."

  26. Lovely.
This was a new one, the collection of three poems, each expressing a different emotion of a journey, a waiting. Very refreshing, loved reading it, the effortless seguing from one emotion to another with each poem was high-quality. You are a class poet :)
Lyrical beauty-wise, all three poems are very close. I liked the first one best, as the emotion it expressed, anticipation, is much more elusive than the concrete emotions of doubt, and happiness, in second and third poems, respectively.
Also, "Is maintaining this relation by any means wise?
Should I wait for him? He needs more time;" this line looks a bit prose-like to fit properly in the second poem, just saying.
    Brilliant collection, keep writing :)

    1. You are right about prose fitting into poetry, actually I am free verse poet and I experiment. My only aim is to make poem very readable for the masses. I certainly can't write as classy as you Mohit. Thanks a lot for reading.

About writing a happy ending, when I was new people said I write a lot of sad poems, I just wanted to break that image. In fact I love writing sad poems, emotions are easy to portray, for happy ones finding phrases is very difficult.

  34. i love them all Saru..

the best part being the happy ending., in the 2nd part i thought it would end badly and he would make her wait for years and would never return, But he comes.. :D

I like it whene she doesn't open her eyes in fear.. its like, she is soo much in love but still somewhere inside is filled with fear that is stopping her from believeing and hoping..

    my fav lines,
"Convicted of falling in love, I have to bear this pain.
Consoling my pounding heart, its pleading will not go in vain."

every poem gives a different feeling, and the way it all unfolds is beautiful.. i sooo love the way you write..
